Prof Scott Harding – Cardiologist
What is interventional cardiology?
Interventional cardiology can treat coronary artery narrowings, aortic stenosis, selected arrhythmias and other conditions.
Minimally invasive catheter based treatments are often preferred to conventional surgery because they are less invasive, there is a faster recovery, and generally fewer complications.
Interventional cardiology procedures include
- Intravascular imaging
- Chronic total occlusion CTO)
- Cardiac catheterisation/Angiogram
- Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)/Angioplasty
- Alcohol septal ablation
- Angioplasty and stents
- Pacemakers
- Medications
- Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
